A Tribute to Munshi Premchand on His Birthday

Though the certain era of Munshi Premchand is no more but still he is shining from a high altitude in the history of Indian sub continental literature. Beside novels or short stories, he glorified the modern literature by composing dramas like Karbala, Tazurba, Prem ki vedi, Roohani shadi, sangram in Hindi. He used to be endeared by the title of Upanyas samrat (Emperor of novels) by his adoring devotees.  Our tribute to his embossed literacy on his 135^th birth anniversary.

EZCC changes the 'Kolkata Theatre Festival', 2015 Schedule

The programme schedule of  'Kolkata Theatre Festival', 2015 at Bharatiyam Complex, EZCC is being chanded due to the sudden death of our former President APJ Abdul Kalam. The 'People's President', was laid to rest in his hometown Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu today.

This festival will be start from 3 august,2015, said the director of EZCC  Dr. Om Prakash Bharti.

 In the one month’s festival, more than 100 plays will be presented. The theatre show will be followed by interaction sessions, seminar on the topic of ‘The Multiple Streams of Indian Theatre’, exhibition on ‘The Journey of Kolkata Theatre’, poster campaign and Theatre Haat. Theatre personalities from different parts of the country are being invited for an interaction session.

In the interaction and seminar sessions the different streams of Indian theatre will be discussed in the presence of eminent theatre scholars and practitioners like Ratan Thiyam, Govind Namdev, Satish Anand, G.S.Balwanth, Dulal Roy, D.P.Sinha, Bibhash Chakraborty, Kanhaiyya Lal, Sabitri Kanhaiyya Lal, Rudra Prasad, Manoj Mitra, Shamik Bandopadhyay, B. Jayashree and many more.

Following are the Sub- themes of seminar-

1. Sanskrit Theatre
2. Folk Theatre and Traditional Theatre
3. Major theatre Movements
4. Contemporary works by eminent theatre directors of India (Dulal Roy,B.V.Karanth, Ratan Thiyam, Pannikar etc)
5. Theatre in regional languages. 
6. Rural theatre of India.

আমার বড় হয়ে ওঠা থিয়েটারের পরিবেশের মধ্যে । আমার দুই দাদাই থিয়েটারের সঙ্গে যুক্ত ছিল।  তাদের কাছে থিয়েটারের গল্প শুনতাম, তাদের থিয়েটার দেখতে যেতাম। আমি নিজেও থিয়েটার করতাম। আমাদের স্কুলেই গ্রুপ থিয়েটারের দল ছিল সেখানেই নিয়মিত থিয়েটার করতাম। তারপরে  আমি নিউজ এ চাকরি পেলাম। এরপর একটা মেগা সিরিয়ালে অভিনয়ের সুযোগ পাই। তখন কীভাবে অভিনয় করব (পেশাগতভাবে) সেটা আমাকে শিখতে হতো। সেইসময় আমি বাবান দার (কৌশিক সেন) স্বপ্নসন্ধানীতে কিছুদিন ছিলাম। সেখানে আমি শিখতাম মানে আমি শিখতেই গিয়েছিলাম, রিহের্সালে থাকতাম, ব্যাকস্টেজে কাজ করতাম। জিনিসপত্র নামানো, স্টেজ করা এই সমস্ত কাজ। স্বপ্নসন্ধানী কেন যে কোনো দলেই এতো সহজে কাজ পাওয়া যায় না , প্রথমে ব্যাক স্টেজেই কাজ করতে হয়। স্টেজ ঝাঁট দেওয়া, নাটকের পোশাক ইস্ত্রি করা, মঞ্চ সাজানো, মেক আপে সাহায্য করা - এইসবই করতে হয়। এগুলো করতে করতেই এক দেড় বছর কেটে যায়। দেখতাম কীভাবে বাবানদা, কাঞ্চনদা একটা চরিত্রকে নিজের মধ্যে নেয়। স্বপ্নসন্ধানী আমার ভীষণ প্রিয় দল। বাবানদা আমাকে খুব সাহায্য করেছে। উনি আমার গুরু বলা যেতে পারে। আমি যেটুকু কথা বলতে পারি বা ক্যামেরার সামনে সাবলীল হতে পারি সবটাই বাবানদা এবং পরিচালক অনিন্দ্য ব্যানার্জীর জন্য। এছাড়াও আমার পাশে এতো বড় বড় অভিনেতা অভিনেত্রীরা কাজ করত তাদের দেখে দেখে শিখেছি। যাই হোক এরপর আমি টেলিভিশনে কাজ করতে শুরু করি। আর একবার টেলিভিশনে কাজ শুরু করে দিলে থিয়েটার কাজ করা খুব কঠিন হয়ে যায়। আর আমি একজন চিত্র নাট্যকার, তাই থিয়েটারের ব্যাকগ্রাউন্ড ছিল বলে সুবিধা হয়েছে। যেমন স্ক্রিপ্ট লেখার কাজ তারপর একটা চরিত্র আর একটা চরিত্রের মতো কথা বলে না, তাদের কথা বলার নমুনা আলাদা হয় সেগুলো আমার বুঝতে সুবিধা হয় যেহেতু আমি থিয়েটারের সঙ্গে দীর্ঘদিন যুক্ত ছিলাম। আর আমি নিয়মিত থিয়েটার দেখি বলতে স্বপ্নসন্ধানীর সব কাজ দেখি, ব্রাত্যদার কাজ দেখি। তবে সমস্ত নাটক যে দেখা হয় তা নয়, কোনোটা হয়তো শুনলাম ভালো হয়েছে, গিয়ে দেখলাম। এই তো ব্রাত্যদার 'রুদ্ধসংগীত' নাটকটির ১০০ দিন যে হলো সেটার স্পনসর আমরাই ছিলাম। এছাড়া অগ্নির (পরিচালক এবং প্রযোজক - অগ্নিদেব চ্যাটার্জী) সঙ্গে যাওয়া মানে নিমন্ত্রণ পেলেই যাওয়া হয়। এখন তো বেশির ভাগ সময় মুম্বাইতে থাকি। তাই আর সময় হয়ে ওঠে না। তবে এই সম্প্রতি একটা ইংলিশ নাটক দেখলাম। পূরব কোহলির একটি নাটক। উনি আমন্ত্রণ জানিয়েছিলেন। খুব সুন্দর নাটক, বেশ ভালো লাগল। আমি যেহেতু থিয়েটার করতাম, থিয়েটারের পরিবেশে এবং থিয়েটারের মানুষজনকে ঘিরে বড় হয়েছি তো থিয়েটার আমার খুব পছন্দের এবং ভালোবাসার জায়গা। অনুলিখন : রেশমী পাল

১২৪ তম প্রয়ান বার্ষিকীতে সেই মহাপ্রাণ পূরুষর্ষভ পন্ডিত ঈশ্বরচন্দ্র বিদ্যাসাগরকে আমরা আভূমিপ্রণত শ্রদ্ধা

এক শ্রাবণের বিরামবিহীন বর্ষনমুখর এক দিনে, বাঙালি হারিয়েছিল তার পরমেশ্বরকে। মানবীয় আধারে যিনি ছিলেন অপরিমিত হৃদয়বত্তার অতলান্তিক মহাসাগর। আর্ত-পীড়িত-অসহায় মানুষের ক্রন্দন-ধ্বনি যাঁর বুকের গহনতম অন্তস্থলে, আলাপে শোনাত নিষ্ণাত মেঘমল্লার। শমিতবীর্য পশ্চাৎপদী বাঙালিজাতি যাঁর অমোঘ উর্জিত-শাসন ক্ষাত্রতেজে দেখেছিল নারী-মুক্তির অভিনব সূর্যোদয়। যাঁর নিরাপদ প্রশ্রয়ে বিদগ্ধ হয় বাংলা ভাষার দিকদিগন্ত-বিসর্পিত দিশাহীন কৈশোর। মহাকবি কালিদাস, ভবভূতি কিংবা প্রতীচ্যের চারণকবি শেক্সপীয়ার যাঁর প্রযত্নে আমোদিত করেন বাংলা অনুবাদ সাহিত্যের মায়াকানন। ১২৪ তম প্রয়ান বার্ষিকীতে সেই মহাপ্রাণ পূরুষর্ষভ পন্ডিত ঈশ্বরচন্দ্র বিদ্যাসাগরকে আমরা আভূমিপ্রণত শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করি।

A brief on A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam better known as 'Missile man' APJ Abdul Kalam the former President of India from 2002 to 2007, passed away at Bethany Hospital, Shillong, Meghalaya after cardiac arrest during a lecture at the IIM on Monday evening.
Sir Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 in Rameswaram,a South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. He born in a family whose financial conditions weren’t sound enough. As a means to support his family’s meagre income, Kalam took up odd jobs in his childhood but never gave up on his education.
Among his many accolades, including honorary doctorates from 40 universities, he was granted the Padma Bhushan (1981), the Padma Vibhushan (1990), and the Bharat Ratna (1997) — India's highest civilian awards — for his contributions in modernizing government defense technology . After completing his term as President, Sir Kalam served as a visiting professor in various esteemed institutes and universities of India.
Sir Kalam was a man of vision, who was always full of ideas aimed at the development of the country. He was the first scientist and bachelor to occupy the seat of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.He firmly believed that India needs to play a more assertive role in international relations.Dr. Kalam was also an ardent advocate of open source software over proprietary solutions to churn out more profits in the field of information technology in India. His contribution at the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) was immense. He was responsible for numerous projects such as Project Devil and Project Valiant and launch of the Rohini-1, besides developing missiles under the missions Agni and Prithvi. For the same, he was popularly tagged as the “Missile Man of India”.
